Heavy-duty electric trucks servicing San Pedro Bay port terminals can now charge for free at the Port of Long Beach, which announced it has opened the first two public charging stations in the nation for the vehicles.

The Port has partnered with EV Connect, a leading provider of charge-management solutions for electric vehicles, to provide the stations at the Clean Truck Program Terminal Access Center, 1265 Harbor Ave., Long Beach 90813. View the fact sheet for details and eligibility.

The Port of Long Beach has partnered with EV Connect, a leading provider of charge-management solutions for electric vehicles, to provide public charging stations at the Clean Truck Program Terminal Access Center, 1265 Harbor Ave., Long Beach 90813, for the use of heavy-duty electric drayage trucks. Qualifying trucks registered in the Port Drayage Truck Registry and that have paid annual truck fees may utilize the stations during normal operating hours.

Who can use the charging stations?
Heavy-duty electric drayage trucks that service the Port of Long Beach can use the charging stations. The vehicle must have paid annual truck fees and have authorization to operate within the Port.

How long can I use the charging stations?
Charging times are limited to 2 hours per charge, per truck. Individuals may utilize the charging stations during normal CTP Terminal Access Center operating hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday

How do I use the charging stations?
To use the charging stations, drivers must first check in with facility staff. Drivers must check in each time they would like to use the charging stations.

There are two options to begin charging:
1. Download the EV Connect Charging Driver App
2. Borrow a charging key fob from the CTP Terminal Access Center

EV Connect Driver App

Scan the QR code to go to a webpage with direct links to download the EV Connect Driver App on Google Play and Apple App Store. Once the driver has downloaded the app, facility staff will register the driver in the EV Connect system as a San Pedro Bay Ports drayage driver authorized to use the Port’s public charging stations via the app.

Fobs
Alternatively, drivers may borrow a key fob to use a charging station without the app. Key fobs are available from facility staff. Please be sure to return fobs to staff after the charge session is started.

How much will it cost to charge a truck?
During the initial program rollout, drayage truck charging at the Port of Long Beach CTP Terminal Access Center charging stations will be free of charge to all eligible drayage trucks. The Port will notify all registered users before implementing any charging fees.
